Prakriti

प्रकृति · Your natural constitution

Prakriti, from the Sanskrit for "nature" or "original form", is the Ayurvedic framework for understanding individual constitution. Every person is born with a unique combination of three fundamental forces, or doshas, that shapes how their skin behaves, ages, and responds to treatment.

Two patients can have identical skin tones and entirely different treatment needs. Prakriti explains why. At Aahana, it is part of every patient's intake and it informs everything that follows.

Each one shapes your skin
in a completely different way

First dosha
Vata
वात · Air & Space
Wind · Movement · Change
Vata skin
Dry, thin, and fine-textured. Prone to dehydration and premature fine lines.
Highly sensitive and reactive. Changes quickly with seasons, stress, and environment.
Ages early without consistent barrier support. Responds best to gentle, nourishing protocols.
Often presents with rough texture, dullness, and visible pores when imbalanced.
Sensitive, expressive, and deeply responsive. When balanced. Luminous. When depleted. Tight, dull, and reactive.
Second dosha
Pitta
पित्त · Fire & Light
Heat · Transformation · Precision
Pitta skin
Warm, sensitive, and photosensitive. Prone to redness, rosacea, and pigmentation.
Bright and luminous when balanced. Flares with heat, spice, hormonal shifts, or stress.
Requires special attention to sun exposure and laser wavelengths across all skin tones.
Responds well to cooling, anti-inflammatory treatments and careful energy device selection.
Reactive and photosensitive. Bright and clear when in balance. Flares with heat, hormones, and stress.
Third dosha
Kapha
कफ · Earth & Water
Stability · Structure · Endurance
Kapha skin
Thick, oily, and resilient. Naturally moisturized with excellent elasticity and slow aging.
Stays youthful longer than other constitutions, but prone to congestion, enlarged pores, and laxity over time.
Benefits from stimulating, exfoliating, and lifting treatments to counteract sluggishness.
Responds well to microneedling, RF treatments, and deep cleansing protocols.
Resilient and naturally moisturised. Stays youthful longer than other types. But needs stimulation and clearing to stay at its best.

Your constitution and
your skin tone together

Your skin constitution and your skin tone together define one of 42 unique profiles. The Fitzpatrick scale, a foundational clinical tool, classifies skin by melanin concentration and UV response. At Aahana, we layer it with your Prakriti constitutional type to create something no standard scale offers: a complete picture of how your skin is built, how it behaves, and what it needs.

The Fitzpatrick Scale
Type I
Very fair
Always burns, never tans
Type II
Fair
Usually burns, tans minimally
Type III
Medium
Sometimes burns, tans gradually
Type IV
Olive / medium brown
Rarely burns, tans easily
Type V
Brown / dark brown
Very rarely burns, tans deeply
Type VI
